Can you learn a wedding dance lift with no previous experience?
Yes. We don't start from the lift you see in the video. We choose an element that fits the abilities of both partners.
You learn the grip, the entry, the weight sharing and the exit separately, and only then connect everything to the music.
We don't build a lift based on what looks hardest
Couples sometimes arrive with a video from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or another wedding. The video is a starting point.
We check whether the element suits the couple, and if it doesn't, we look for a version that gives a similar effect and works better with your bodies, the music and the dance.
What can you add to the dance?
Hero Lift
One main lift at the peak moment of the song.
A few small elements
A few small elements through the dance, instead of one big peak.
Dip
A dramatic drop without needing a high lift.
Entrance
An acrobatic entrance into the dance.
Ending
A lift or a pose to end the dance.
AcroDance sequence
A sequence that combines several elements in one flowing movement.
Sometimes one lift is all the dance needs
Not every wedding dance has to turn into an acrobatics show. One lift in the right place can create the peak moment without changing the character of the whole dance.
For couples who want more, we can build a more complex AcroDance sequence.
How do we build a wedding dance lift?
- Send a song — send us the song, or the part where you imagine the lift.
- Send your choreography — if you have one.
- Send inspiration — a video from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube or a wedding you saw.
- Choose an element — based on your experience, flexibility, strength, height, weight sharing, clothes, choreography and the time you have to practice.
- Break it down — entry. Grip. Lift. Exit. Each stage is learned separately.
- Connect it to the music — only once the element is clear and stable on its own.
Already built your dance? No need to start over
You can come with your existing choreography and we'll add the lift into it. We'll look at where it fits in terms of movement, music, direction and tempo.
If needed, we can also coordinate the element with your dance teacher.
No dance yet? You can start from the element
You can start from the lift itself and plan where it could go. The rest of the dance you can build on your own or with a wedding dance teacher.
If you need a full wedding choreography, there are professionals who specialize in that. If the moment you imagine includes a lift, a dip, an acrobatic entrance or a sequence of partner lifts, that is exactly our field.
How many lessons do you need for a wedding lift?
There's no fixed number. A single simple lift, a sequence of several elements and a complex lift are three different processes.
The number also depends on your experience and on how much the couple practices between lessons.
How long before the wedding should you start?
The more time you have, the more you can learn without pressure and give your body time to get to know the movement.
If the event is already close, it's better to choose a simpler, more realistic element than to try to squeeze in a complex lift at the last minute.
The lift has to work in a dress and a suit too
A lift that feels comfortable in training clothes doesn't necessarily behave exactly the same in your wedding outfit.
Some things are worth considering in advance: the volume and length of the dress, a train if there is one, the shoes (heels? slippery soles?), a jacket that limits your range of motion, gripping on smooth fabric, the type of floor in the hall and the size of the dance floor.
As the wedding gets closer, it's worth practicing with the movement limits you'll actually have.
Stability first. Effect second.
The goal isn't to find the highest or most complex lift possible. The goal is to find an element that you both understand and can perform consistently.
You learn the lift in stages and we use spotting throughout the learning process. If a particular element isn't right, we swap it for another.
"I'm afraid to go up" or "I'm afraid to drop"
That's a natural reaction to a first lift. We don't start by trying to do everything at once.
You learn where the weight sits, what each person does and how to enter and exit the element, and when needed, we choose a lower element.
Does the person lifting need to be bigger or stronger?
Not necessarily. Technique, center of gravity, timing and the structure of the lift matter a great deal.
But not every lift suits every combination of bodies, which is why we match the element to the couple.
And also: there's no rule that the man lifts and the woman goes up. Roles are set by the people and the element, not by gender.

Dance lifts use principles that come from the worlds of acro and partner work, but the purpose is different: instead of performing a pose for its own sake, the lift has to enter and exit from the music and the movement.

Saw a lift you loved? Send it to us
We'll check whether it suits you as it is, whether it's worth simplifying, or whether a different element would give a similar effect.
Learn in private, at your couple's pace
Wedding dance lifts are taught in a private format so the element can be matched exactly to the two people performing it. More about the format: private lessons.
How much does it cost to learn a wedding dance lift?
The price depends on the format and the number of lessons. Send us your wedding date and what you'd like to learn, and we can recommend the right way forward.
